Wherever Floyd Mayweather goes the money follows. He made a massive amount during his legendary career as a prized fighter.

Mayweather is still winning big despite walking away from boxing a while ago. His recent big win came from betting on the Super Bowl.

The Philadelphia Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs to be crowned the Super Bowl champions and Mayweather put $30,000 on the Eagles to win. The winning bet added $29,126 to his wallet. He also made a separate first-half bet on the game putting down $40,000. With the return netting him $29,629, Mayweather won a cool $60 grand on the night.

The American boxer has series of options and could be angling for a rematch with her long-term rival Savannah Marshall

Last Sunday night Claressa Shields went wild clobbering her opponent Danielle Perkins. The two faced-off in front of a nearly sold out crowd at the Dort Financial Center in her hometown of Flint, Michigan. Claressa Shields made boxing history.

Shields attained a unanimous decision victory over Danielle Perkins. Thus, she became the first boxer, male or female, to hold undisputed belts in three weight categories. Further, Sunday’s triumph made Shields the first woman to be the title-hold of undisputed heavyweight champion.

Shields has myriad of options to choose from her next opponent even as the cheers of the title still ringing in her ears. She has already lined-up some possible opponents for her next outing. Moreover, the undisputed titlist remarked on how busy she would like to be for the remainder of 2025.

“I want to fight two more times this year,” said Shields in a post-fight interview.

“I want to fight against Franchon-Cruz, I want to do a rematch with Hanna Gabriels.

“I want to bring Savannah Marshall to the US and tap that (expletive) again. It’s always on the table if Cris Cyborg or Laila Ali want to fight,” she said.

Meanwhile, Claressa Shields’promoter has hinted that the champion is willing for a rematch with Savannah Marshall. Shields, who made more history in women’s boxing by becoming the undisputed heavyweight world champion, is ready for a replay with her greatest rival in the same division. In case the fight materializes, then it must take place in the US or on neutral ground.

Still celebrating her heavyweight title victory over Danielle Perkins, Claressa Shields is setting her sights on a rematch of her 2022 bout with Savannah Marshall. According to her promoter Dmitry Salita, Shields wants to stage at heavyweight. In their last bout, Shields took a unanimous decision win over Marshall at the middleweight division.

Salita further noted that he’s officially reached out to Marshall’s team about their interest in the fight. He aspires to bring the match to fruition, adding that Shields extra power at heavyweight makes her an even bigger risk to obtain a knockout.

Shields, who is a two-time Olympic gold medallist, began her professional career in November 2016. She officially went pro. When she won her first match, against Franchón Crews-Dezurn, by unanimous decision.

In the event the proposed rematch is to gain any traction, the promoter noted that the fight would need to be either staged in the US or in a neutral place and not in England. The duo had their first meeting in England. Shields is as proficient as they come at this point and would seem to be eyeing for a challenger that will attract as much money and notoriety as possible, with Marshall being a substantial name in women’s boxing arena.

Despite being the highest-earning boxer in history, Floyd Mayweather finds himself entangled in fresh financial controversies. Reports of unpaid wages, employee protests and accusations of bankruptcy have surfaced, raising questions about the financial health of the legendary athlete’s Money Team Enterprises.

Mayweather, whose career earnings exceed $1.2 billion, made headlines in late 2024 with bold real estate investments. In October, he acquired over 60 buildings in upper Manhattan for a staggering $402 million, encompassing more than 1,000 residential units.

Just a month later, the boxing icon partnered with 601W Companies, investing in a portfolio valued at $10 billion, including 18 office buildings spanning 10 million square feet. Although the exact figure of his investment remains undisclosed, insiders suggest it may be his largest to date.

Adding to his ventures, Mayweather finalized another deal over Christmas, purchasing a Midtown Manhattan property for $20 million. Situated at the corner of Sixth Avenue and 47th Street, the building houses offices and jewelry shops in a prime location near Broadway and Rockefeller Center.

Financial troubles

Floyd Mayweather of bankruptcy after failing to pay them Employees of his Los Angeles gym accuse

Despite these high-profile purchases, allegations of unpaid wages at Mayweather’s Los Angeles gym have sparked significant backlash. Employees claim they haven’t received paychecks, prompting a public protest outside the facility on Highland Avenue.

One protester held a sign accusing Mayweather of “modern-day slavery,” while another noted that “the $ Team has no $.”

“Even if you work for a different company and you ain’t getting paid, you’re scared to show up and say something because you know how businesses do. They silence you and they fire you,” an employee said.

The employees allege violations of California Labor Code 210, which mandates penalties for late wages. First-time violations can incur fines between $100 and $200, and unpaid wages beyond 30 days entitle workers to a full day’s pay for every day delayed.

This isn’t the first time Mayweather’s gyms have faced financial issues. A Money Team Boxing gym in Elk Grove closed after the landlord sued for nonpayment of $30,000 in rent. Now, with the Los Angeles gym facing closure, employees are questioning whether Mayweather himself is aware of the financial troubles.

“Who knows if he’s aware or not? We don’t,” one employee stated. “I was told that we can’t tell him. I can’t tell him that our studio’s closing, and he was here two weeks ago. We’ve been silenced.

Floyd Mayweather is not bankrupt despite being reportedly being unable to pay staff working at a Los Angeles gym in his name their wages; so what is the problem for the gym, which has been accused of “modern-day slavery” in a protest?

Disgruntled employees staged a public demonstration outside of the gym at Highland Avenue after saying they haven’t been paid for weeks, leaving them unable to cover basic living expenses but scared to report the matter because of the risk of being sacked

We’re out here just letting everybody know that they have not been treating us right,” a protestor told The Daily Mail. “Even if you work for a different company and you ain’t getting paid, you’re scared to show up and say something.

“Because you know how businesses do. They silence you and they fire you because everything’s ‘at will.'”

The 47-year-old’s Mayweather of Boxing and Fitness group has even been accused of breaching California’s Labor Code.

But this is something denied by an insider, who insists it has nothing to do with the fighter himself – something backed up by the protestors too, who admitted they didn’t know if the ex-champion was aware.

“Allegations of non-payment of wages against @FloydMayweather are false,” Rick Glaser posted to X.com, formerly Twitter. “This Mayweather Gym in LA is a franchise that Floyd gets a franchise fee for.

“Floyd himself has nothing to do with the assets or liabilities of this. These reports are misleading, & defamatory.”

Mayweather not short on money

Floyd Mayweather dissociates himself from accusations of non-payment after the truth about one of his business dealings was revealed

Any claims that Mayweather is bankrupt can simply be laughed off by his recent spending habits after the man nicknamed Money dropped over $402 million dollars to buy 60 buildings in New York City back in October.

It’s the start of his retail estate career and he backed that up by investing an undeclared amount of cash in 601W Companies, who control 18 different assets worth over $10 billion dollars covering 10 million square-feet.

‘Money’ lived up to his moniker as he filmed a visit to a bank with his entourage, taking wedges of tightly packed bills in bags.

“Just getting ready, Super Bowl weekend in Las Vegas, we had to get the ones, make it rain, check it out,” Mayweather says to the camera as he gestures to his crew carrying the piles of cash.

The YouTube clip, posted by via All Urban Central, then shows the boxing great dropping a wedge in Louis Vuitton before giving an in-depth tour of part of his watch collection — worth an estimated $100 million.

In it, he reveals that he brings a luxury timepiece for every day he is away traveling in special cases.

His 2015 collision with Phillipino icon Pacquiao in 2015 brought in £333 million in pay-per-view sales — an all-time record.

The undefeated legend was not going to miss the chance to watch the first-ever Super Bowl in Sin City as the Kansas City Chiefs took on the San Francisco 49ers.

He booked out a plush suite at the Allegiant Stadium – costing a staggering $1.13 million.

“I don’t kiss ass and I never have to beg for nothing especially not to get a Super Bowl suite,” he wrote on Instagram.

“I don’t mind accepting invites at times, but one things for sure… The person that’s paying does all the saying.

“Therefore I get my own seats and suites so I can do what I want and invite who I want!

“I’m blessed to be taking 34 people to experience the 1st Super Bowl in Las Vegas! $1,131,000.00.”

Mayweather took part in exhibition fights against Aaron Chalmers and John Gotti III in 2023.

It was a far cry from his pomp but still netted him a huge tax bill of over $18 million.

“Just before I paid that light million and change for that little Super Bowl stuff, I had to pay the IRS aka Uncle Sam $18,047,181,” he shared on Instagram.

“This is what I owed in taxes while I’m retired so just imagine what I was paying when I was activated.”

As a Vegas resident, Mayweather is no stranger to a bet.

And Money clawed back some of his spend after putting down a massive wager.

He bet $95,000 on the Chiefs to win and took home $203,000 thanks to their overtime triumph.

With the same teams in action again in 2025, it will be interesting to see if the pugilist fancies Jalen Hurts to avenge his defeat or sticks with the hot hand.

There will be plenty of money behind the Chiefs as they chase a three-peat but most of the football world is praying Andy Reid‘s juggernaut can finally be stopped.

Former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua, on Wednesday, paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu at his residence in Lagos State.

Joshua, a British-Nigerian boxer and two-time world heavyweight champion, also presented the president with an autographed glove, which read, “To the Great Asiwaju Jagaban Borgu of Africa, Bola A. Tinubu.

Champ @anthonyjoshua pays homage to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at his residence in Lagos. Presents him with his autographed glove,” the tweet read.

In late December 2024, the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, announced plans by his administration to construct a brand new Anthony Joshua Indoor Boxing Ring in the state.

Abiodun also announced that the two-time former world heavyweight boxing champion would be lighting the Gateway Games National Sports Festival torch, which has been postponed till May 2025.

The governor made this known when he hosted Joshua in his office in Abeokuta, the state capital.

“I want to openly request that, besides the fact that today we are going to officially confirm you as our sports ambassador, we want to request that you come back to light up the Gateway Sports Festival torch; you will be the one lighting it up.

“We are going to construct a brand new Anthony Joshua Indoor Boxing Ring, and that boxing ring will be in a stadium here in Abeokuta to ensure that you come home more frequently. Besides the fact that you are now our official sports ambassador, we have decided that we will give you a brand new house in Sagamu,” he said.

According to PUNCH Sports Extra, the proposed heavyweight clash between Joshua and another British rival, Tyson Fury, could generate over $300 million in revenue, with both camps expressing interest in staging the fight at Wembley Stadium in 2025,

The Brit reinvigorated the heavyweight division and brought huge numbers of fans to the sport over the last 13 years since he won his gold medal at the Olympics in 2012.

After turning professional, power puncher ‘AJ’ quickly rose up through the ranks to become a world champion and then a unified belt holder. As well as good wins over the likes of Wladimir Klitschko, Dillian Whyte and Aleksandr Povetkin, there were setback losses on the way to Andy Ruiz and then back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk that left him belt-less.

His attempt to regain world honours fell short back in September when he lost to Daniel Dubois by 5th round knockout. In the aftermath, many thought the one and only fight left to make was with former champion and fellow British boxing star Tyson Fury, who also twice lost to Usyk.

Speaking to talkSPORT Boxing, promoter Eddie Hearn revealed that Joshua has moved on from the idea of fighting Fury for now and named the fight he wants.

“Daniel Dubois rematch.”

He then corrected himself and pointed out Joshua was more interested in becoming a three-time world champion than getting his revenge.

“Not even the Dubois rematch. The world heavyweight championship. I think Parker is going to be Dubois so maybe we fight Parker.”

All eyes then turn to February 22 when Dubois puts his IBF title on the line for a second time against former champ Parker.

TYSON FURY has cast even more doubt over a showdown with Anthony Joshua coming to fruition.

The Gypsy King seemingly put the final nail in the coffin of the long-overdue domestic dust-up last month by announcing his fifth retirement.

Boxing fans and pundits alike aren’t buying what the Wythenshawe warrior is selling and reckon he’s hung up his gloves again to bump up his payday for the AJ fight.

But he recently told promoter Frank Warren that he’s “happy” with his current life after boxing.

The Queensberry Promotions chief revealed on The Ariel & Ade Show: “Can he walk away from the sport? He says he has.

“And at this moment in time, he said to me, he’s really in a good place and that he’s very happy.

“And that, for me, is important that he is happy and that he’s in a good place.

“He’s been one of the best two heavyweights of the 21st century.

“And I just want him now to enjoy his family and his life. He had a hard year last year.

“Three training camps one after another, one fight got cancelled because he got the cut eye.

“He needs now to go enjoy his life and enjoy being with his family, which is what he’s doing.”

As much as he wants Fury to enjoy the fruits of his brutal labour, Warren wouldn’t be surprised if the former heavyweight king’s competitive spirit gets the better of him.

He said: “I’ve not bothered him and I’ve certainly not spoken to him about fighting again.

“And if he does, that’s got to be his choice. He’s a very, very wealthy guy, he’s made a serious amount of money.

“He doesn’t need, financially, to fight. If he does fight, it’s because he’s got a fighting heart.

“Obviously he’ll get well paid if he does fight. But he’s got a fighting heart.”

Fury’s retirement came on the back of consecutive losses to former undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk.

In a video on his social media pages, he said: “Hey everybody, I am going to make it short and sweet.

“I would like to announce my retirement from boxing.

“It has been a blast and I have loved every single minute of it.

“I’m going to end with this – Dick Turpin wore a mask.

“God bless everybody and see you on the other side.”

Claressa Shields (15-0-0) is set to fight Danielle Perkins (5-0-0) on February 2 in a battle of undefeated pugilists.

The fight is set to take place at the Dort Financial Center in Flint, Michigan, United States. The IBF, WBC, WBF, and WBO world heavyweight titles will be on the line for the showdown.

Shields last fought Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse in July 2024 and earned a TKO win. She is now set to take on Perkins in a clash where someone might lose their perfect record.

Perkins has sounded a warning to Shield ahead of the fight as she said in a press-conference:

Her coming up to heavyweight is the best thing that’s happened to me in my entire life. No one, at any point, ever cared about this division until Claressa came up. … I have five fights not because of a lack of attempting to get fights. No one ever wants to step in the ring with me and it’s unfortunate because I have some skills. … I know for a fact Claressa is up for the challenge.

Claressa Shields outpointed Danielle Perkins to become the first female undisputed heavyweight champion in history. Shields dropped Perkins during the contest and earned a unanimous decision.

The judges scored the bout 97-92, 99-90, and 100-89. While Perkins was the heavier fighter, Shields showed his power, dropping her opponent with a thunderous right hand.

She also became the first ever boxer, male or female, to become the undisputed champion across three different weight classes. Shields has done so in light middleweight, middleweight, and heavyweight

In front of her home crowd in Flint, Michigan, Shields improved his perfect professional record to 16-0-0. Speaking after the fight, GWOAT said:

I actually think I’m going to have to have surgery on my left arm. I tore my labrum last week, so the fight almost didn’t happen. I didn’t want to let Flint down, but I really couldn’t use my jab the way that I wanted to. I iced it, I did therapy and now I think I’m going to have a shoulder surgery.

Shields, who won the Olympic gold medals in 2012 and 2016, kept adding to her ever growing legacy with the win against Perkins. She highlighted how she was able to manage the threat of the bigger opponent, saying:

Danielle was strong, she was definitely a problem but my experience and my skills got me over it. I’ve been in plenty of street fights with bigger people and I had to use some of my skills in that today, too. So, when I dropped her in the last round, it’s because she got greedy.
